Village of Flat Rock: Notice of public hearing

From the Village of Flat Rock:
The Village of Flat Rock Council will conduct a public hearing on Monday, April 2, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. in the Village Hall Assembly Room, 110 Village Center Drive, Flat Rock, North Carolina.

The purpose of the public hearing is to consider proposed amendments to the Village of Flat Rock Land Development Ordinance (LDO).

The proposed amendments to the LDO are available for public review in the Village Hall during regular business hours, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and on the Village website at www.villageofflatrock.org.

2012 WNC Chef’s Challenge: Season's Executive Chef Peter Fassbender

Season’s Restaurant at Highland Lake Inn announces its participation in the 2012 WNC Chef’s Challenge. The third annual competition to name the “Best Chef in Western North Carolina” begins March 20 at Century Room on the Park at Pack’s Tavern.

Season’s Executive Chef, Peter Fassbender, will be among the 14 competing teams in this year’s WNC Chefs Challenge.

The competition brings together culinary leaders from across the region to compete in weekly battles built around a secret ingredient. Diners at the event will enjoy six plated culinary creations (three from each team) that incorporate a secret ingredient and score each dish. Votes gathered from the audience, as well as a panel for professional chefs, journalists, and culinary experts will be tallied at the end of the night and a winner will be chosen to continue on to the next round of the competition.

Chef Fassbender makes his debut in the Challenge on Tuesday, March 27 against Chef Stewart Lyon from Boca in Asheville. The competition runs each Tuesday March 20 through May 22 with quarterfinals and semifinals to follow this summer. The Grand Finale will kick off the WNC Magazine Asheville Wine & Food Festival on Thursday, August 23.

Dennis Justice enters politics

For those of you who kept up with the soccer complex issue, you're already familiar with Dennis Justice of the Justice Compromise as well as numerous presentations to the Henderson County Board of Commissioners.

Dennis has now decided to throw his hat into the ring of politics and is running on the Republican ticket for county commissioner, representing District 2 (Fletcher), against incumbent Charlie Messer. All registered Republicans and independents are eligible to vote for him on May 8.
