Flat Rock ice cream social serves up smiles as well

Sounds like fun was had by all! From the Times-News:
Despite a cool but sunny day, people were lining up for free ice cream at the annual Celebrate Flat Rock Ice Cream Social on Saturday. Flat Rock Mayor Bob Staton enjoyed his cup of ice cream while listening to bluegrass from Letters to Abigail.

“It means a lot. First of all, (the social) is a collaborative effort,” Staton said. “They start planning this in January. There’s a lot of camaraderie just in the committee.”
Volunteers manned the scoops, serving up chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, chocolate chip, sugarfree buttered pecan and orange sherbet.
Students at West Henderson High School also came out to serve, dubbing themselves the Flat Rock Ice Cream Social Cheerleaders. Megan Raxter, 16, was invited to scoop by family friend and ice cream organizer Chris McDonnell. Megan came to the social for a few years with her family. On Saturday, she scooped out the buttered pecan....
