"Democratic process?"

A strange letter to the editor in today's paper from Lisa P. Clark of Hendersonville:
To the editor: I attended the County Commission meeting where the very loud opposition heckled children who mustered the nerve to speak to the board. These children believed in our American process — you will be heard and respected if you speak up.

I doubt they walked away feeling that way. After the vote from Flat Rock last week, I’m sure they now believe more of what they see on the playground: the loudest and pushiest get their way!

After this defeat, I heard so many people express their shock and frustration at not being heard, that this very quiet and controlled game can be among walking trails and a playground....
I was at the November 7 county commissioners meeting where both sides spoke about the soccer complex (I'm assuming that's the meeting she's referring to) and I don't recall any heckling of children "who mustered the nerve to speak to the board"--and there were children who spoke to both sides of the issue.

There is a video of the meeting if anyone wants to double-check, but I disagree with Ms. Clark's statement.

  1. Here were a few of my comments on that tripe:

Lisa Clark's letter is pap and stuff that rhymes with pap. First of all, it was the soccer community who cut to the front of the line in the first place with this rushed soccer complex when the gym at the Balfour School HAS to be fixed, and the track at Hendersonville High is a disgrace.

Second, children were not heckled. You can see the video yourself: http://boc.hendco323link.podcast.323link.com/player.html?episode_id=55.

Those children were there as defense shields by "soccer mom." Just like with those parks assessment meetings in 2007. But don't dare suggest that. Thou shalt not offend soccer mom.

What I did see were a bunch of soccer folks who came after the "accidental" E-mail bomb by the director of Parks and Recreation, who has a conflict of interest as a government employee on the HCSA board. Him and Ms. Hopkins both. It's about time this idea of the servant being greater than the master stopped in this county.

I was at the last few meetings, funny that no soccer complex proponets spoke last night, offering any alternative once word came out about how the costs over 10 years were at LEAST $2.3 million (and that's a very low estimate), and the opponents like myself did offer alternatives, everything from fixing the current fields, to going back to the ArvinMeritor site in Fletcher, to my "Justice Compromise," to artificial turf at high schools.

They wanted a fiefdom, and wanted us to pay for it and pay for the losses forever.

It'll be nice to see how people with the mindset of Ms. Clark act when they come crawling back to Fletcher when we lost SEVEN YEARS OF PROPERTY TAX REVENUE by not annexing ArvinMeritor, giving the soccer community a sweetheart rent deal, only to have them pursue this bondoggle behind Mayor Moore's back.

Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice...they should be lucky Fletcher hasn't sold that land off to farmers yet for $1.

Funny how NO Commissioner apologized to the TAXPAYERS last night, but Edney took time to apologize to COURSE DOCTORS?

It's hard for the soccer community to admit they were wrong. They overreached, and burned a lot of bridges.

No, it's much easier for them to just accuse us as being "idiots," "stupid," or hating children.
