This morning, the Flat Rock Village Town Council held their regularly scheduled monthly meeting. Needless to say, there was an overflow crowd that included two sheriff deputies (or maybe they were deputy sheriffs).
After initial concern that there were too many people and the meeting might have to be adjourned and rescheduled for another day, some people voluntarily moved outside so the meeting could continue. I thought the town council handled the schedule very well: they designated 30 minutes of public input towards the beginning of the meeting and then 30 minutes to be available at the end, although not that much time was needed.
Due to some diligent residents who arrived early to sign up for speaking, the first one on the list to speak in the opening public session was Robert Dungan, the attorney retained by the three most affected HOAs. He listed the various zoning requirements that the county would have to go through to even begin figuring out how the soccer complex could conform to the location, if it could at all.
After Mr. Dungan, several others spoke, all but two against the soccer complex proposal. Since the village cannot make any determination on the project now since they haven't received any requests for zoning changes, the most they could do today was start appointing a citizens' group to consider how the Highland Lake Golf Club property could be used if it were sold. . .
And. . . then we all went home... (to be continued)
