"Unwise development"

A letter to the editor sent by Sally Hughes:
Henderson County is a significant tourist attraction. Flat Rock, with the Carl Sandburg House, the Playhouse, Rainbow Row, St. John in the Wilderness Historic Church, Highland Lake resort, and historic homes contributes to the ambiance of the area.

Every year more people have confidently invested in property here because they felt it would hold its value for themselves and their children.

The Highland Lake area is the main entrance to Flat Rock from I-26. If the golf course must close, it would make sense to use the property for more vacation-related pastimes such as walking trails in a park, tennis courts and maybe keep the driving range.

Soccer fields would not be in keeping with the neighborhood. Noise, lights, big parking lots, and massive traffic would detract from home values. And it would be very inconvenient for soccer fans if a tournament were held on a rainy day as the course tends to flood.

It would be much better to build the soccer fields in a non-neighborhood location.

My family has been in Flat Rock for three generations and we currently own three houses. Our descendents would like to remain here, if Flat Rock is not destroyed by unwise development.

Please help us keep Flat Rock lovely as it is now.

  2. Breaking: Flat Rock says zoning doesn't allow for soccer complex, would need to request change.
